This lesson explores the Biblical usage and meanings of various time periods, such as “age” and “forever” (KJV). It may surprise some to learn that the basic idea of an “age (aion) was a man’s lifetime, because he could see nothing beyond that. If “age” in Scripture means forever, as it is so often translated, then what of “the ages of the ages”? Would that not mean “the forevers of the forevers”? You can see how ridiculous this double standard is. God has not revealed to us what is truly “forever”, because that is so far above our understanding as to be completely incomprehensible to us. Yes, I believe there will be a “forever”, but what will be revealed to us in it will be wonders indescribable to our fleshly condition today. For the most part, God takes things one step a time with His creatures. He kept a great secret from “the ages and the generations” of mankind until He revealed it to Paul (Eph.3:2-9), and now it is open knowledge. No doubt God has other secrets to reveal, but each in its own good time and “age”.
